The RAD Project
The RAD Project stands for Rise, Adapt, Discover. Launched in April of 2018 as a charitable foundation to assist athletes who suffer from diseases, illnesses, or disabling conditions that make CrossFit and other fitness modalities seem unattainable. Our mission is to gain the education, equipment, training, and expertise to assist individuals struggling with disease or disabilities, in overcoming them, healing them, and improving their health and functionality as they undergo treatment or are recovering from treatment for serious illnesses and conditions. We strive to become the innovative affiliate leader in our area to develop a sponsorship program to assist people financially, emotionally, and physically through their recovery process. We believe in the healing power of functional fitness, to restore both the body and mind to a healthier and stronger state that will boost the immune system, instill confidence, promote happiness and general well-being to those struggling with disease or disabilities.
Services the RAD Foundation will provide to individuals who qualify:
1. Assessment of fitness abilities and needs
2. Evaluation and goal planning
3. Collaboration with medical professionals to create a comprehensive and holistic plan of care and training that is safe and effective.
4. Grants for training
5. Provision of adaptive equipment to accommodate special needs
6. Provision of training by highly qualified coaches who are educated and trained to work with various disabilities and limitations
7. A community of support and friendships
8. Direction to other resources the athlete may need that are available in the community for additional assistance.
9. Collaboration with other fitness facilities, such as yoga studios, obstacle courses, CrossFit gyms, etc. to formulate partnerships that promote the placement of sponsored athletes into the best program for them.
10. Ongoing assessment and evaluation of their progress.
11. Including these individuals in community events to promote their sense of purpose and encourage them to inspire others who may be suffering from the effects of illness/disease.
12. Improving and developing a better facility for adaptive and afflicted athletes to train in, which includes
A. Purchasing equipment that will improve their strength and mobility and promote proper progression through a safe and purposefully planned program.
B. Developing the outdoor space at the primary location into a proper health and wellness area that will include outdoor fitness equipment, walking trails, obstacles, team building structures, meditation/relaxation areas.
C. Development of a designated outdoor training and healing space for youth with disease or disability.
E. Obtaining certifications and training necessary to work with underage individuals suffering from disease or disability by course offerings available from CrossFit Inc. training kids programs.
F. Obtaining education necessary to improve our ability to train individuals over the age of 40 through various course offerings available such as mobility certifications, movement sciences, scaling, Master’s Training, etc.
Donations to the RAD Foundation supports our community’s efforts to improve individual health and fitness, as well as our collective fight for integrity and ethical training in the sports and health sciences.
We believe that individuals going through treatment for serious diseases, are at increased risk for isolation and depression. This program aims to integrate these individuals into group fitness settings to combat isolation and depression during their treatment and recovery process. The development of an outdoor space for training, healing, and building relationships with others, will also promote their overall sense of well-being and improve quality of life on multiple levels.
